Hello. I am writing this one week post-operative.After what I regarded as a minor ear infection, it became evident that the hearing in my left ear was diminishing.A sensation of fullness became quite prevalent.ENT Dr. tried 2 courses of anti-bios and steroids to no avail. A tympanogram was flat, 'consistent with middle ear fluid'. When ENT did myringotomy to 'drain fluid', she discovered the C-toma.After CT scans and some careful consideration of local neoro-otologists, surgery was scheduled.Dr. removed a large C toma, and the hammer and stapes bone, he was able to save the anvil, and tympanoplasty,My hearing is the same as pre-op: I only have about 20%. Surgeon said C-toma was quite large.Mastoid was also drilled down some.Prognosis is good for 2nd look reconstruction provided there is no recurrence.I experienced moderate discomfort for the first 2 days. I spent overnight in hospital. Over the course of this week, the localized pain in the incision has lessened, but I still feel like the jaw and neck muscles are quite tight (sore). Tylenol helps.I have NO problems with taste or facial muscle weakness or numbness.Bottom line: to all who are considering this, please get the necessary treatment right away!! It's pretty clear that I had this for some time, but merely dismissed it as a pesky clogged ear that would go away.Good luck to you all. Feel free to email me!
