Steve M, 33

During March this year (2006) I started to lose my hearing in my left ear. After two months of constant pain and deafness I admitted myself to hospital after losing faith in my local Doctor who just thought I had a persistent ear infection. After going through the ordeal of a spin attack & vomiting - I finally saw a (ENT) doctor who immediately diagnosed my condition from a CT scan and using mircroscope in the ear. I went onto IV antibiotics for a week then he operated to remove my Cholesteatoma. The operation was two weeks ago and I'm currently doing my Cawthorne Cooksey (balance) exercises to try and get my life back to normal. I feel very lucky that I eventually was seen by a very talented and supportive Doctor, I saw several before that had no idea what was wrong with me. I'm not looking forward to going through with the second operation, but after what I've gone through - I can't complain. I have come to realise how fragile life is but also how we need willpower and determination to pull us through these things, my sympathies are with all those who have/are suffering from this condition.Steve (UK-Surrey)
