Erin H.

I first went to a doctor because I was having trouble hearing. He told my that I needed tubes in my ears. He did not send me for any tests. I received the tubes and my hearing was just getting worse. The doctor kept saying it should get better. I then went and got a second opinion in which case the docotor was able to tell I had cholesteatoma due to the size of the tumor. He then sent my to get a CT scan and verified this. About a year passed before I was diagnosed. But my whole life I had had problems with infections. My doctor now said my cholesteatoma was congenital. Nobody in 24 years found this. I have had two surgeries in the past year and a half. I had my first surgery to remove the cholesteatoma and to put a prosthesis in replace of the bone that I had lost. The next surgery was due to hearing loss which the doctor thought may be because of the prosthesis being moved. When he went in again, there was more of the cholesteatoma. I receive CT scans about every six months. I see my doctor tomorrow and I fear that I will have to have another surgery. I am not hearing well and I have ringing in my ear. I pray that things are alright.
